This site is about life in the Royal Navy Submarine Service, or what was
known to it`s volunteers as being in "Boats". I joined the RN
in late 1942 and after initial training volunteered for service in Submarines in 1943,
with all the confidence of youth on my side I set out to start a great adventure and meet
some of the finest and loyal shipmates that anyone would wish to meet, it is to these mates,
past and present that I want to dedicate this site.If anyone should access this site and
remember a L/Sto.Mech Dalton C/KX 527212,
Please
use the e-mail link.
The two boats featured on these pages are there because they were the ones that I joined as commissioning crew and stayed on until they finished their first commission. The Dockyard Engineers designed and built the boats but it was the crew who put life into the boat, they were the ones that made a "happy ship" and word would soon spread through the Flotilla if it was`nt, nothing the Wardroom or the Captain could do if the boat did`nt have that feeling of comradeship. The page titled Spare Crew is of a few memories I have of a U class boat named the Ultor, This class of boat was built between 1934----1936 they were very small only six officers and twenty five ratings. There is also some memories of the Depot Ships and Submarines myths and stories.
